Tides is a PalmOS application designed to display tide tables directly on a PalmPilot, but it does not include any data by itself. To use it, the user must download tide tables from the web and convert them into Palm‑compatible databases using the companion tools TideMac or TideWin.
These small console programs transform text‑formatted tide tables into PDB files that the Palm can read. They support four different formats—xtide2, xtide (older), high/low, and altlow/althigh—and each source file must begin with two tab‑separated header lines specifying the file name, the Palm database name, the site description, the format type, the units, and the maximum number of entries per day.
Once the text file is prepared, it is placed in the same folder as the converter, which generates the PDB file. This file is then installed on the Palm using the standard Palm Install tool, and users may add as many tide databases as they need.
