The object of the game of Theole is to be the player with the most pieces displaying their colour at the end of the game. The game begins with two pieces from each player being placed diagonally in the centre of the board. Black begins by placing a piece such that a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line of white pieces is ‘sandwiched’ between a black piece on the board and the piece being placed. The white pieces trapped between the two black pieces are said to be captured and are turned over to display black. The opposition then has the opportunity to place their piece.
