2ch Meisakusen (2ch Masterpiece Selection) is an offline reader for Japanese message-board archives on classic Palm OS devices. It presents exactly one post at a time, so a thread reads more like a book than a continuous web page. Long posts scroll within the post before advancing.
Features
- Full-screen, one-post-at-a-time reading
- In-post scrolling for long posts
- Portrait, clockwise, and counterclockwise reading directions
- Software rotation that does not require an OS screen-rotation API
- Separate configurable hardware-key mapping for each direction
- Page-number jump and per-book reading-position memory
- Exact 1,000-post PDB volumes grouped as one continuous work
- Automatic movement across volume boundaries with whole-work page numbers
- Rejection of missing, duplicate, or inconsistent volume sets
- Install or remove each complete work independently
Included Content
The reader download contains the Palm application and an original four-post sample database. The optional Builder download contains a self-contained Windows utility, its README, required third-party software license notices, and a text-free ordered catalog of all 3,945 source-page URLs required for seven registered works. Neither package contains archived 2ch/5ch story text, downloaded web pages, source caches, generated third-party work PDBs, or other completed third-party book databases.
2ch Meisakusen is unofficial and is not affiliated with 2channel, 5channel, or any archive or summary site.
Personal Library Builder (Windows)
The optional story-content-free Builder makes personal book PDBs from material the user is entitled to copy:
- Imports saved 2ch/5ch DAT, supported archived-thread HTML, UTF-8/CP932 text, and canonical JSON
- Combines multiple threads or chapters in the order selected by the user
- Preserves one Palm record per post
- Splits every work automatically at exact 1,000-global-post boundaries
- Performs strict CP932 conversion and re-validates every volume, record, CRC-32 checksum, and whole-work edition ID
- Records source format, encoding, and SHA-256 without putting story text in the provenance report
- Rejects incomplete or inconsistent volume sets, selects every validated PDB in Explorer, and opens Palm Install Tool without pretending the files were queued
- Builds any of seven registered works from its complete ordered URL list with one action
- Resumes interrupted or failed downloads from a SHA-256-validated local cache
- Shows continuous fetch-to-validation progress, the current URL, and the remaining page count
- Retains nine representative public source links for source review
- Shows the complete saved-document, chapter, and post counts for every candidate work
- Rejects incomplete, differently ordered, or changed content by comparing final full-record CRC-32 and SHA-256 fingerprints
- Opens one selected link in the default browser or copies its URL without downloading the page inside the tab
Merely viewing Registered Masterpieces performs no network request. After the user selects a work and starts a full-book build, the Builder fetches only that work's fixed ordered URLs—11 / 3,744 / 2 / 88 / 20 / 12 / 68 pages—then parses and combines them. The seven complete works contain 77,861 posts and produce 82 numbered PDBs in total: 11 + 38 + 3 + 23 + 2 + 2 + 3. Each selected work remains one logical work in Reader 0.2.0 even when stored in multiple PDBs. The Builder does not discover links, crawl an unknown site area, sign in, solve CAPTCHAs, or bypass access controls. The bundled metadata contains URLs, order, expected completion counts, and non-reversible SHA-256/CRC-32 fingerprints only—no story text, downloaded page, account credential, or browser data.
Arbitrary URL import still fetches only exact pages entered by the user, sequentially and with a validated cache. Direct arbitrary-URL fetching from 2ch/5ch and @Wiki remains disabled; the registered-work path separately permits only exact URLs embedded in the bundled manifest. Local/private addresses, URL userinfo, and redirects outside the registered hosts are rejected.
The Builder has no upload or sharing feature. Generated PDBs and caches remain in the user's chosen local folder. The freeware EXE is not digitally signed, so Windows SmartScreen may show an unknown-publisher warning.

Requirements
- Palm OS 3.5 or later
- 160 x 160 display
- Japanese-capable Palm OS or a Japanese font environment for Japanese books and interface text
- Windows 10 or later for the optional packaged Builder
Book Databases
Compatible works can be installed separately, but every numbered PDB belonging to a selected work must be installed together. Reader 0.2.0 shows a complete set as one work and rejects a set with a missing or inconsistent volume. Only install material you are entitled to copy and use. A private copy is not automatically licensed for redistribution; do not upload or share generated book databases without the necessary rights and source permissions.
Version History
Builder 0.3.0 (September 4, 2026)
- Splits each logical work into PDB volumes at exact 1,000-post boundaries.
- Selects every validated volume in Explorer, opens Install Tool without file arguments, and rejects an incomplete or inconsistent set. Nothing is queued automatically.
- Validates a content-original 1,001-post self-test as exactly two complete PDB volumes before packaging.
Reader 0.2.0 (September 4, 2026)
- Groups a complete multi-PDB volume set into one work while retaining whole-work page numbers and saved position.
- Opens the next or previous PDB automatically when reading across a 1,000-post boundary.
- Hides incomplete or contradictory volume sets and asks the user to install every volume.
- Continues to read legacy single-volume v1/v2 book databases.
- Deletes the selected complete work after confirmation: all volumes for v3, or the single PDB for legacy v1/v2.
Builder 0.2.0 (August 11, 2026)
- Registered all 3,945 ordered source-page URLs required for the seven works without bundling story text.
- Added one-action full-work download, resumable validated caching, completion checking, and PDB generation.
- Added continuous progress and remaining-page display across fetching, parsing, and final PDB validation.
- Kept arbitrary URL import restrictions, private-address rejection, redirect allowlisting, and atomic output replacement.
Builder 0.1.1 (August 11, 2026)
- Added a metadata-only Masterpiece Links tab with seven works and nine public source-page URLs.
- Added open-in-browser, copy-URL, and pass-saved-file-to-the-next-tab actions without automatic crawling or bundled story text.
- Added saved-page adapters, recursive folder import, exact completion counts, and full-record CRC-32/SHA-256 validation for all seven listed works.
Builder 0.1.0 (August 10, 2026)
- Added the content-free Windows GUI/CLI for local HTML, DAT, TXT, and JSON input.
- Added multi-thread ordering, strict CP932 validation, PDB/CRC verification, provenance, and Explorer-assisted Palm Install Tool handoff.
Reader 0.1.2 (August 10, 2026)
- Added a Mona-inspired launcher icon for 1-, 2-, 4-, and 8-bit displays.
- Fixed clockwise and counterclockwise software rotation on Palm OS 4.x hardware.
