The Quest 1.03  (Palm)

Compatibility/Requirements

The game requires at least 3 MB heap, 18 MB storage memory and OS 5+. You could skip the sound and/or the music data file to save storage. Any of the files can be installed on main storage memory, filesystem (f.e. lifedrive) or card.

Screen resolution compatibility:

* The game isn't signed for Zodiac, since Tapwave is gone. You need the PopAccess application.
** The game is really slow on UX,TH,NX,NZ. Also, on NX and NZ you need the MCA2 for the sound support.
*** On T, T2, TW, Zire 71 and Zire 31  you need UDMH (google it). F.e. on T, you need all the available storage memory for the game (Quest device!). You may want to remove TheQuestSound and/or TheQuestMusic files.
**** The game does work on E and E2, without UDMH.

Upgrade from 1.02 or 1.02X to 1.03

If you have installed the game on card, the opsystem may leave the copy of TheQuest.prc on the main memory. Then if you upgrade the game now, on the card, the new TheQuest.prc won't be copied and started - but the old version's prc file. Solution: you need to delete the copy of TheQuest.prc from the main memory.

Best solution for upgrade: delete every Quest file, from main memory and card, except the saved files on the main memory (TheQuestSaveX.pdb).

Installation

You have to install every prc/pdb file in this archive:
- TheQuest.prc
- TheQuestBase.pdb
- TheQuestBy.pdb
- TheQuestData.pdb
- TheQuestMusic.pdb
- TheQuestRes.pdb
- TheQuestSound.pdb

If you don't want sound and/or music, you may skip TheQuestSound and TheQuestMusic, accordingly.

Even if you install the game on filesystem (lifedrive) or card, you still need reasonable amount of free main storage memory. When you start the game, it checks the installed files' location, and may display a warning about the free amount. If you install the game on main memory, you don't need additional free memory! Except for saved games.

You can install the files on card by modifying the "target" in palm installer. First, add the files, one by one. When you add the last one, select all the files in the installer's screen and change the target to "filesystem" or "card".

You can't move/copy the game to and from card easily. The installed pdb files aren't linked to TheQuest.prc file. If you delete the game from card, you may need to delete each file manually.

On Sony NX and NZ, you need the MCA2 library. After installation, check the prefs on your device, and MCA2 in it. Check "install and exit". Don't install this library on other devices than NX and NZ.

Game manual

You can download the game manual's MS Word or PDF version.

Running the game

For performance reasons, the game gives the operating system as low resources as it can. If you have 3rd party, special applications, they may don't work correctly. F.e. a custom, calendar/alarm application.

If there are problems, please check your free main memory amount. Even if the game doesn't display a warning at startup.
Then do a soft reset, and try again.
You may need to delete the game, then re-download and re-install.
If you check the installed databases (Info from palm menu), you can see the saved games are individual databases now. You can't delete them by deleting the game itself.

Registration

If the game doesn't accept the purchased registration code, please contact us, and send the "short hotsync name" AND the "crc" from the registration screen. We can reply with a guaranteed regcode if you provide these information.
