BATTLESHIP Usage

Object of the Game

Be the first to sink all five of the ships in your opponent's fleet.

Game Overview

You and your opponent each have your own 10-square by 10-square ocean grid. You each also have a fleet of five ships. The ships and their sizes are as follows:

  • Aircraft Carrier

- 5 grid squares
  • Battleship

- 4 grid squares
  • Cruiser

- 3 grid squares
  • Submarine

- 3 grid squares
  • Destroyer

- 2 grid squares

Secretly deploy your fleet of ships on your grid, while your opponent does the same.

Palm OS Pocket PC

To position ships, drag the outline of the ship to the desired location and tap the Deploy button. Use the Rotate button to alternate between positioning ships horizontally and vertically. After all ships are deployed, you are ready for battle.

To play, you and your opponent will alternate turns firing missiles at targets (grid squares). To fire a missile at a target, tap the screen over the grid square. Each missile you fire will either hit or miss an enemy ship.

Palm OS Pocket PC

A hit will be indicated by a red peg. A miss will be indicated by a white peg. A ship is sunk when all of the grid squares occupied by the ship have been hit. The first to sink the opponent's fleet of five ships wins the game!

Palm OS Pocket PC

How to play salvo

The salvo variation of the game is recommended for more experienced players who have become familiar with the basic game and enjoy a faster pace.

Use the same rules as the basic game, but on you turn, each player takes one shot for each ship that remains in his fleet. Whenever any one of your ships is sunk, you lose one shot when you fire your next salvo. The more ships sunk, the fewer shots you get!
