Installing Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet
To install this program, use the Palm Install Tool on your desktop to load the file: Gourmet.prc onto your Palm device. After specifying the file for installation, perform a HotSync (r) operation to load the file onto your PalmOS (r) device.

Deleting Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet
To uninstall, delete the application from your device using the "Applications manager".

Launching Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet
To launch Amy Reiley's Pocket Vineyard on your PalmOS device, tap the icon labeled PocketVine.

The Restaurant Notes section
The Restaurant Notes section of Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet is very similar in organization to the built-in Address Book application on PalmOS (r) devices. Chances are, if you've used the Address Book, you'll have no problems quickly getting used to the Restaurant Notes section of the program.

Creating Records
1. Tap New.
2. Enter the text in each field you wish to enter text into. You can switch fields by tapping the field you wish to enter data into.
3. When finished, tap Done.

Deleting Records
1. Select the record you want to delete.
2. Tap the Menu icon in the bottom left portion of the silkscreen Graffiti (r) writing area.
3. Select the Record drop-down menu and choose Delete Tasting from the list.
4. Select OK when the confirmation box appears.

Other Deleting Options
You can also delete a record by pulling up the record and tapping on the Details button. In the Details dialog box of the application, tap Delete, and then tap OK.

Categorizing Restaurant Notes
When you create a record, Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet automatically places it in the category that is currently displayed. If the category displayed is All, Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet assigns the record to the Unfiled category. You can change the category at any time.

To move a Restaurant Note into a category:

1. Select the Restaurant Note you want to categorize.
2. Tap Edit.
3. Tap Details.
4. Tap the Category pick list to display the list of available categories.
5. Select the desired category for the Restaurant Note.
6. Tap OK.

To display a category of Restaurant Notes:
1. Tap the category pick list in the upper-right corner of the list screen.
2. Select the category you wish to view.

To define a new category:
1. Tap the category pick list in the upper-right corner of the screen or list.
2. Tap Edit Categories.
3. Tap New.
4. Enter the name of the new category.
5. Tap OK.

To rename a category:
1. Tap the category pick list in the upper-right corner of the screen or list.
2. Tap Edit Categories.
3. Select the category you wish to rename, then tap Rename.
4. Enter the new name for the category, and then tap OK.
5. Tap OK.

Merging Categories
You can merge categories of Restaurant Notes by simply renaming one category with the name of the other. The records from both categories will then be merged into one category.

Looking up Restaurant Notes
When working with the Restaurant Notes section of Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet the scroll button on the front panel of your PalmOS (r) organizer makes it easy to navigate among your Restaurant Notes.

You can also use the Look Up feature to quickly scroll by letter to any of your Restaurant Notes.

To look up a Restaurant Note:
1. Display the Restaurant Notes list screen.
2. Enter the first letter of the name you want to find.
3. Tap the record to view its contents.

Sorting lists of records
In the Restaurant Notes section of Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet, you can sort the list of records two different ways, by Restaurant, City or by Rating, Restaurant.

To change the sorting order of the records:
1. Open the Restaurant Notes section to display the list screen.
2. Tap the Menu icon.
3. Tap Options, and then tap Preferences.
4. Tap the setting you want.
5. Tap OK.

Changing the Font
To change the font style in the Tasting Notes section:
1. Tap the Menu icon.
2. Tap Options, and then tap Font.
3. Tap the font style you wish to use.
4. Tap OK.

Selecting Types of Entries in the Restaurant Notes section
You can select the types of information that you associate with a Restaurant Notes entry. Any changes you make apply only to the current Tasting Note.

Entries that have a triangle preceding them can be changed to another label. To do so:
1. Tap the pick list next to the label you want to change.
2. Select a new label.

Renaming Custom Fields
There are four custom fields that you can choose to rename. Please keep in mind that if you change the custom field names, those changes apply to all records.

To rename the fields:
1. Within the Tasting Notes section, hit the Menu icon.
2. Select Options, then select Rename Custom Fields.
3. Change the field name(s) you wish to change.
4. Tap OK.

Beaming
You can share your Restaurant Notes with friends who also have Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet on their PalmOS (r) handhelds.

To beam a Restaurant Note:
1. Locate the Tasting Note you wish to beam.
2. Tap the Menu icon.
3. Tap Record, and then tap the Beam Rest. entry.
4. When the Beam Status dialog box appears, point the IR port directly at the IR port of the receiving organizer.
5. Wait for the Beam Status dialog box to indicate that the transfer is complete before you continue using your organizer.

You can also select a Restaurant Note to be your favorite for beaming. That Restaurant Note will always be easily accessible for beaming.

To beam your Favorite Restaurant Note:
1. Within the Restaurant Notes section of Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet, tap the Menu icon.
2. Tap Record, then tap the Beam Favorite entry.
3. When the Beam Status dialog box appears, point the IR port directly at the IR port of the receiving organizer.
4. Wait for the Beam Status dialog box to indicate that the transfer is complete before you continue using your organizer.

To select a Restaurant Note to be your Favorite Restaurant Note:
1. Bring up the Restaurant Note you wish to use as your Favorite Restaurant Note.
2. Tap the Menu icon.
3. Tap Record, then tap Select Favorite.
4. Tap Yes.


MENU COMPANION SECTION
There are two ways to look up definitions in the Menu Assistant section of Amy Reiley's Pocket Gourmet.

1. By First Letter
To choose a term, first select the first letter of the phrase you are looking for. Then, choose the term from the second pop-up menu. The definition will then be displayed.

2. By Category
To choose a term, first select a category by choosing from the pop-up menu labeled "Or Choose Category". Then, choose the term from the second pop-up menu. The definition will then be displayed.

To change the font size, select one of the Font boxes at the bottom of the screen (these boxes are marked with different sized "A"s).

THE TIP CALCULATOR
To use the tip calculator, do the following:
1. Tap the amount of the subtotal of the bill using the first set of numbers.
2. Tap the amount of tax for the bill using the second set of numbers.
3. Choose a tax rate by tapping on the associated percentage.
4. The tip amount will be displayed below, as will the final total.
